what is driver program
Worldview Driver Program
The Worldview Driver Program is dedicated to empowering young Indigenous Adults to get their driver’s licenses.
We provide a holistic support including administrative and literacy support, access to a car, professional driving instruction, and a committed team of staff and volunteers to help complete their mandatory driving hours and pass their tests, opening doors to employment and future opportunities.
The disparity in driver’s license attainment between Indigenous and mainstream communities significantly impacts employment outcomes. Many jobs require a driver’s license, especially in regions with limited public transport, making it essential for accessing job interviews and employment.
Challenges faced by Indigenous youth in obtaining licenses include logistical barriers, financial constraints, and limited access to technology and literacy resources. Many households lack the necessary supervision for learners to complete driving hours, and the cost of lessons and petrol can be prohibitive. Additionally, access to devices for online registration and tests is limited, compounded by complex language on government websites.
Our program aims to bridge these gaps by providing tailored support and resources, empowering Indigenous youth to overcome barriers and achieve their aspirations.
With almost 30% of people on income support lacking a driver’s license, our initiative plays a vital role in enhancing employability and promoting independence.
By supporting Indigenous young people in gaining their licenses, we equip them with a critical tool for career advancement and empowerment.
Join us in breaking down barriers and fostering independence and opportunity for Indigenous youth in our communities.
