what is the breakthrough program

Worldview Breakthrough Re-engagement

Breakthrough Re-Engagement is an intervention program tailored to students teetering on the brink of disengagement from education, while also tackling at-risk behaviours head-on.

Our intervention program is a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders and youth-oriented services, all focused on implementing diversionary strategies to mitigate risks effectively. Geared towards students aged 12 to 16 (years 7-10), the program offers invaluable support, encouragement, and tools to reignite their passion for learning and personal growth.

Participants will delve into a series of life and employment skills workshops conducted by Worldview Foundation. These workshops cover a wide array of topics, including fostering a Positive Mindset, overcoming Drug & Alcohol Use/Addiction, and crafting a fulfilling life through goal setting and values alignment. Additionally, participants will partake in offsite activities, supported by Worldview Youth Workers, NSW Police, and other key stakeholders, aimed at enhancing self-awareness, self-worth, and social skills.

Throughout the program, dedicated Youth Workers, Youth Engagement Officers, and Mental Health Specialists will offer unwavering support, guidance, and mentorship. Scheduled to align with NSW Education Term dates, the program will operate during school hours, ensuring seamless integration into participants’ academic schedules.

Participants are nominated or referred into the program voluntarily, with each session occurring weekly throughout the school term. During the pilot phase, each participating school and NSW Police Engagement Officers will nominate up to two participants, totalling 10 students.

Current Pilot schools include Queanbeyan High, Karabar High, Jerrabomberra High, and Bungendore High.

The pilot phase is scheduled for Term 1, 2024, with subsequent iterations planned for each school term over the following two years. As the program progresses, the aim is to expand group sizes to accommodate 15 participants, allowing each referring party three spots for referral. The program will cater to two age groups: Year 7/8 students and Year 9/10 students.

Over the two-year duration, the NSW Department of Education and NSW Office of Regional Youth will assess the program’s impact, informing future strategies and policies across the region.
